Grado is just the beginning of an artistic and cultural itinerary throughout the area; the millenary history spans Roman ruins, pre-christian basilicas, and fishermen’s dwellings.
Aquileia was a Roman outpost that today still boasts ruins from the time. Palmanova is a star-shaped city designed by the Venetian Republic, and Cividale del Friuli, one of Lombardy’s important centres. All are UNESCO heritage sites.
Udine has a castle, elegant squares, and numerous Tiepolo frescoes. Gorizia represents the First World War, and Trieste boasts a glorious Hapsburg influence where central Europe and the Mediterranean meet.
